Thank you for the Editors of Information Processing in Agriculture for their trust and the opportunity given to me to serve as reviewer.
Congratulation to Renardi Purnama Putra and Yasmin Salamah who have successfully presented their research in The 8th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology (ICOICT 2020). The presentation was conducted virtually and the research paper will be submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore and Scopus. The title of the papers are:
- E-Initiative for Food Security: Design of Mobile Crowdfunding Platform to Reduce Food Insecurity in Indonesia

Salamah Y, Asyifa RD, Afifah TY, Maulana F, Asfarian A
Both of them are from undergraduate computer science program. Renardi research is a part of his undergraduate final project, while Yasmin research is the continuation of her group submission in Gemastik 2019. Special acknowledgement was given for the Department of Computer Science and Directorate of Student Affair for their funding and support to make the paper published.
I was invited as a judge in the International Design Challenge 2020. The competition was conducted by the School of Information System, Binus University in collaboration with Indonesia ACM SIGCHI Chapter. In the process, the judges from Indonesia, Malaysia, and India select the best three of more than 50 submissions for students in various countries. The best five are invited to present their works virtually on 30 April 2020.
International Design Challenge 2020 facilitates students (undergraduate program) from various design and technology backgrounds (e.g. HCI, UX, ICT, industrial design, product design, visual design, interaction design) to demonstrate their problem solving and design ability to propose solutions for digital-technology issues. This year’s competition theme is “Promote Your Culture with Technology”.
I and my students trying to use Mozilla Hub for online virtual thesis supervision. Sadly, the high requirement for both hardware and internet connection doesn’t enable us to have the optimum experience.
On 25-27 November 2019, I attend the ACM SIGCHI Southeast Asia Summer School 2019, in Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). The event was organised by ACM SIGCHI and hosted by SUTD. The aim of the conference is to train the trainers in scientific writing, especially for CHI Conferences. The summers school was attended by around 20 HCI researcher from various countries in the South-East Asia Region.
After the event, I also disseminate the knowledge through several talks: Write4CHI: A Keypoint from ACM SIGCHI SEA Summer School, hosted by Binus University, Indonesia, April 30 and May 20, 2020 [Slide] [Podcast].
The event Facebook page can be accessed here.
The IEEE R10 Humanitarian Technology Conference 2019 (R10 HTC 2019) is the premier conference on humanitarian technology held annually by IEEE Region 10. It is my privilege to present one paper, one poster, and also participate as a finalist in the project competition. Our paper was titled Analysis and Design of Patriot Pangan: Towards Electronic Participation and Initiative Platform to Help Reduce Food Insecurity in Indonesia. The paper is already indexed in IEEE Xplore and Scopus. My students and other students from IPB University also present their poster in the conferences.
We also invited as a finalist at Engineering Festival for Humanity: Networking, Sharing and Inspiring in Conjunction with R10 Humanitarian Technology Conference 2019. However, but haven’t got any champion. Instead, my peers, Dr Karlisa, got second place in the Women in Engineering video.
I also have the privilege of eating my dinner at Sushi Tei Margo City. Still as good as I remember.
Congrats to IPB team for their achievement in Gemastik XII 2019, in Telkom University, Bandung, Indonesia. The team get 1 gold medal in software engineering, and 2 honourable mentions in business development and data mining. In this activity, I actively involved as coordinator and supervise the software engineering team.
I was invited to attend The Third ACM SIGCHI Asian Symposium 2018, hosted by the Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC), Tohoku University, Japan. The symposium was held on December 12-13, 2018. I delivered my talks titled Promoting HCI and UX Practices for Underrepresented People in Indonesia. The symposium was attended by distinguished figures in human-computer interaction like Prof. Yoshifumi Kitamura, Prof. Takeo Igarashi, Prof. Naomi Yamashita, Prof. Aaron Quigley, and Prof. Koji Yatani.
Special acknowledgement for RIEC to sponsoring my trip in this symposium.
We have presented our paper in the Seminar Sistem Informasi Indonesia (SESINDO). The presented paper is titled evaluasi usabilitas dan analisis pengalaman pengguna untuk peningkatan kualitas sistem manajemen pengetahuan komoditas kedelai untuk penyuluh. The paper got the best paper award from the conference organisers.
